She stroked a hand through his hair. “Not now, Erotica. Talk to me. Tell me what’s going on. Tell me why the Night Cat obeys me but not you. Tell me why you left me naked and alone in the forest.”

His lips tightened and he rose. “I must go speak to Sensualous to see how much I may tell you.”

Great. Just great. “Fine. You do that,” she said coolly. He pressed a long, demanding kiss against her mouth. To keep her mouth from being smashed into her teeth, she parted her lips and endured the kiss.

“Everything you could want is here. If you want to go outside, do not wander far. And if the Night Cat returns, do not allow him to couple with you.”

She frowned. “How long will you be gone?”

“I will return with the sun.”

She exploded to her feet. “What? You’re leaving me here alone all night?”

“I must, but I give you my oath you are in no danger.”

At the moment his oath wasn’t worth much in her book. “Take me home, Erotica. Now. Please.”

“Mara! You must trust me! If you do not, all will be lost for me.”

She shook her head. “I think I’ve extended more than my share of trust, Erotica. And now I want to go home.”

He squeezed her hand, a desperate look in his eyes. “Stay with me, Mara. I need you. You are my lifeline…my salvation. Please. Stay here. You will be safe and I will return as soon as I can. You must stay with me. I have a great need for you.”

She sighed and nodded. She watched him walk out of the room. Alone, she felt incredibly tired. She wanted to explore her surroundings and find something to eat and wear, but the exhaustion from her trek in the forest took its toll. Yawning, she curled up on the bed, which immediately contoured to her body. As she fell asleep, her thoughts turned to the Night Cat.
